May 4, 2009: The Interim Director of the Ohio Department of Development announced that Ohio will receive approximately $266 million in additional funding for the Home Weatherization Assistance Program (HWAP) through the Recovery Act. The US Department of Energy (DOE) will administer the funds.
Following DOE approval of the plan, distribution should begin in June and continue for three years. To accommodate the increased projects, HWAP providers will add crew members, managers and inspectors and increase the number of contractors. Contractors will need previous experience in building construction and must be able to understand and perform blower door testing and worst case depressurization draft testing.
Contractors that possess weatherization program experience or a consistent skill set are best positioned to take advantage of anticipated weatherization work opportunities. Find more information about training opportunities and a list of weatherization providers.
